Opportunites for Support
Like a handmade gingham quilt that symbolizes family, love, and care, the rich fabric of our community comes together to help one another in times of need. We invite you to support access to specialized services that care for the body, mind and spirit of our patients.
$50 will provide one patient with a care package to make their visit to the Cancer Institute more comforting. Care packages include soft socks, blanket, and personal care items like chapstick and skin lotions.
$100 will provide one patient with a therapeutic massage, reiki or acupuncture treatment at the Cancer Institute. These holistic treatments help alleviate symptoms like pain, anxiety, fatigue and nausea that patients may experience as part of their cancer treatments.
$250 will provide one patient who will experience hair loss as a result of their cancer treatment with a wig, wig stand and head coverings.
$500 will allow for 15 patients and/or their caregivers to attend the “Write from the Heart” writing support group at the Cancer Institute. This writing workshop supports a safe and creative outlet for patients and their loved ones to express themselves through writing.
$1,000 will help 2 patients facing financial challenges as a result of their cancer diagnosis with payment of everyday living expenses including transportation costs to their cancer treatments.

Gingham Gala Cancer Care Packages
As we work together to ease the financial burdens on cancer patients and their families, we are also mindful of supporting the mind, body and spirit of patients.
Over the next few months, the Gingham Gala Planning Committee is working on a collection of donated items for Patient Care Packages, which include items that provide comfort to patients undergoing treatment at the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute. Click here if you are interested in donating items.
“Thank you so much for the patient care package I received at the Cancer Institute. Your generosity and thoughtfulness is greatly appreciated during my battle with cancer. Everything in the bag has brought me comfort and I just love cuddling with my blanket.”
